New Jindabyne

Summary

A 1952 newspaper article reports that construction of New Jindabyne had already begun, three or four miles from the original township, which was destined to be submerged by the Snowy Mountains Scheme.

Of the 16 houses planned for Commission staff, 10 had already been erected. Streets had been planned and named, and the houses were equipped with electricity, running water and sewerage.

NEW JINDABYNE

Contrary to expectations, a start has been made with the new Jindabyne, three or four miles away from the present site, to be submerged hundreds

of feet deep when the Snowy's water roars down into the big dam. Already the Commission has erected 10 of the 16 homes it intends to build, streets have

been planned and named, and the homes (for staff men) provided with electricity, water and sewerage.
