Summary

In April 1941, the RAF dropped 75,000 one-ounce packets of tea over the occupied Netherlands. Donated by Dutch East Indies tea planters, the packets carried the Netherlands flag and an encouraging message from the free Netherlands Indies to the Dutch people.

Gift of Tea for the Dutch

Delivered by the R.A.F.

London, April 2. — The Free Dutch news agency says that the R.A.F. recently released over the occupied Netherlands 75,000 bags of Dutch East Indies tea, each containing about an ounce of the finest tea.

The Netherlands flag was printed on the label attached to each bag, also the words:

‘Netherlands, rise again! Greetings from the free Netherlands Indies! Chins up!’

The tea was a gift from planters who asked the Netherlands Colonial Office to pass it on in this manner.

The news agency adds that never previously had the Dutch people so gratefully received a gift, especially as it is almost impossible to get an ounce of tea in Dutch shops.
