Summary
This article examines Dutch soldiers’ amateur photographs from the Indonesian National Revolution and their use as evidence of extreme violence. It argues for broader study of photographic archives while considering how Indonesians may view their ancestors as victims, perpetrators or both, and raises ethical questions about the ownership and reproduction of such images.
